Dr. Dorothy Doreen Eneya is the Librarian at MUBAS, where she oversees the day-to-day operations, management, and administration of the Library. In this role, she develops and implements policies, plans, and programmes that enhance access to knowledge and foster a conducive environment for study, research, and innovation. Recognizing the Library’s critical role in advancing MUBAS’s research agenda, Dr. Eneya provides strategic guidance and support to faculty, students, and researchers in their scholarly pursuits and publications.
Dr. Eneya is the first woman in Malawi to earn a PhD in Library and Information Science. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Malawi in 1999, a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science from the University of Malawi in 2007, a Master of Science in Library and Information Science from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, in 2010, and a PhD in Library and Information Science from the University of Zululand, South Africa, in 2020. She has also attended numerous professional workshops and trainings to further strengthen her expertise.
She began her library career in 2000 as an Assistant Librarian responsible for Cataloguing and Classification at the University of Malawi’s Central Library Services. In 2012, she was promoted to Senior Assistant Librarian in charge of Stock Development and Management at Chancellor College Library. In September 2014, she was appointed College Librarian for The Polytechnic before assuming her current role at MUBAS in 2022.
Dr. Eneya has contributed extensively to the development of the library profession in Malawi, serving the Malawi Library Association (MALA) in various capacities, including Training Librarian and Vice President. She has also managed projects such as the Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL) initiative, which led to the adoption of free and open-source library management systems in academic libraries across Malawi.
Her research interests and expertise include information-seeking behaviour, ICT in libraries, open access, informetrics, knowledge management, library administration, disability and libraries, and academic library management. Dr. Eneya has published several papers, contributed a book chapter, and presented her work at both local and international conferences.
Her vision is to provide unlimited access to information through the effective use of digital technologies, transforming the MUBAS Library into a modern, inclusive, and dynamic center of knowledge for the university community and beyond.
