The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) was established under the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences Act of 2019, which provides the legal foundation for its governance and operations.


As a modern public university, MUBAS builds on a rich legacy of academic excellence and national service, evolving from earlier institutions that shaped Malawi’s higher education landscape. Today, it stands as a centre of innovation, research, and professional training—committed to advancing socio-economic development in Malawi, Africa, and beyond.

The University prides itself on a highly qualified and diverse academic community. Many faculty members received their foundational training locally before pursuing advanced degrees at leading institutions across Africa, Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.

Currently, the University employs over 308 academic staff, including:

The University fosters a diverse and inclusive student community, welcoming learners from all three regions of Malawi—Northern, Central, and Southern—as well as from international backgrounds.


As of the most recent academic year, the University has an enrollment of 9,756 students, comprising 6,216 males and 3,540 females. This vibrant student body reflects the University’s role as a national and regional hub for higher education, innovation, and transformative learning.
