Office of the Head of Research and Innovation
Dr Madalitso Wilfred Tsakama
PhD, MSc Food Science, BSc Environmental Science
The Office of the Head of Research and Innovation at MUBAS is a central pillar in driving the institution’s research agenda and fostering a culture of innovation. The office is tasked with promoting, coordinating, and managing research activities across all faculties and departments, ensuring that research outputs are relevant, high-quality, and contribute to national and regional development.

By linking academia, industry, and government, the office serves as a catalyst for translating knowledge into practical solutions that address societal challenges.

At the core of its mandate, the office provides strategic leadership for research development, including the design and oversight of research policies, procedures, and ethics compliance. It coordinates research funding applications, grants management, and monitoring of ongoing projects to ensure alignment with the university’s strategic objectives. By supporting faculty and postgraduate students, the office fosters a research ecosystem that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge creation, and innovation-driven entrepreneurship.

The Office of the Head of Research and Innovation also plays a critical role in building partnerships with local and international institutions, industry stakeholders, and development organizations. These collaborations enable MUBAS to participate in multi-institutional research projects, access funding opportunities, and contribute to policy development. The office also organizes research seminars, conferences, and workshops to disseminate findings, promote knowledge exchange, and raise the university’s research profile both nationally and internationally.

A further responsibility of the office is to facilitate the commercialization of research outcomes. Through technology transfer initiatives, intellectual property management, and support for spin-off ventures, the office ensures that innovative ideas generated within the university are translated into products, services, and solutions that benefit society and contribute to economic development.
