The Head of the Department of Economics and Law at MUBAS provides academic, strategic, and administrative leadership in a unique interdisciplinary department that integrates economic theory, legal principles, and policy analysis. The role is central to promoting high-quality teaching, impactful research, and community engagement in the fields of economics, development policy, business law, and governance.


The Head oversees the design and delivery of academic programs that equip students with critical analytical skills, legal knowledge, and policy competencies necessary for national development and global competitiveness. The position also involves fostering collaborative research, advising on curriculum relevance, and engaging with stakeholders from government, legal practice, business, and civil society.


Key responsibilities include:

  1. Leading the development, implementation, and review of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in economics and law.
  2. Overseeing departmental administration, budgeting, and human resource management.
  3. Promoting staff research, publications, and professional development.
  4. Ensuring academic quality, accreditation compliance, and policy alignment.
  5. Building partnerships with government institutions, legal bodies, development agencies, and the private sector.


The Head of the Department plays a pivotal role in nurturing future economists, policymakers, and legal professionals who are equipped to contribute to Malawi’s socio-economic transformation and uphold principles of justice, equity, and good governance.
