The Head of the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at MUBAS provides strategic, academic, and administrative leadership in advancing excellence in computing education, research, and innovation. The role is critical in preparing graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world and to support Malawi’s digital transformation.


The Head is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of high-quality programs in areas such as software engineering, cybersecurity, data science, artificial intelligence, information systems, and networks. The role also involves promoting a strong research culture, fostering industry partnerships, and ensuring alignment with international trends and national ICT priorities.


Key responsibilities include:

  1. Leading the development, review, and implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in computer science and information systems.
  2. Managing departmental planning, budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation.
  3. Promoting research, innovation, and staff professional development.
  4. Ensuring academic quality, relevance, and compliance with accreditation standards.
  5. Building partnerships with industry, government, and academic institutions to enhance practical training and collaborative research.


The Head of Department plays a key role in driving digital skills development and producing graduates who are innovative, adaptable, and capable of solving real-world challenges through technology.
