PIC: MUBAS’ SAVE Project Implementation Team
On July 9th and 10th, 2025, the Skills for a Vibrant Economy (SAVE) Project Implementation Team from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) undertook an insightful “See and Learn” visit to Mzuzu University (Mzuni) and the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) to gain practical knowledge and share experiences on project implementation.

Members from the three public universities recognised the vital importance of collaboration in project delivery, noting that it provides a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and best practices.

At Mzuzu University, Associate Professor Winner Chawinga, the SAVE Project Coordinator, who was joined by Ms. Samba Kambalame (Projects and Estates Manager) and Dr. Chimango Nyasulu (Head of ICT), warmly welcomed the visiting team and emphasised the importance of mutual learning and partnership. He remarked, “We are happy to host you. As you learn from our project implementation, we will learn a lot from you as well. Feel free to visit us anytime.”

Professor Harold Mapoma, the SAVE Project Coordinator for MUBAS, expressed his gratitude for the insights gained. He stated, “We are impressed with what Mzuzu University is doing, and we have learnt a lot. We intend to apply this knowledge as we implement our project.”

The following day, the MUBAS team visited the Natural Resources College (NRC) campus at LUANAR, where they paid a courtesy call on the Acting Deputy College Director, Professor Limbikani Matumba. He was accompanied by LUANAR's SAVE Project Coordinator, Dr. Liveness Banda, and the Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS) Focal Person, Dr. Ponyadira Corner. After the meeting, the group toured the LUANAR SAVE project site, where the MUBAS team acknowledged the progress and practices being implemented.

Later in the afternoon, the team went to their Nanjiri campus, where they held training sessions with the contractor workforce on the Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) and Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS).

The SAVE Project transforms MUBAS by enhancing infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable learning environments, and strengthening institutional capacity to deliver quality higher education aligned with national and global development goals.
