Over 80 first-year students at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) were orientated for Nzeru Hub, an initiative aimed at enhancing digital skills and enrolling students in various courses offered through the platform.

Speaking during the session held on 21 May 2026 in Blantyre, Acting Head of Research and Innovation at MUBAS, Dr. Martin Msendema, encouraged students to work hard and remain passionate in their studies. He emphasized that platforms such as Nzeru Hub expose learners to opportunities in the fast-changing world of technology.

The orientation highlighted how Nzeru Hub complements the different programmes and modules offered at MUBAS while equipping students with additional skills beyond their academic curriculum. Nzeru Hub provides training in basic literacy, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and Microsoft Certified Professional courses with the aim of empowering the youth and creating pathways to numerous opportunities.

Nzeru Hub Coordinator, Goodwel Nyirenda, said the initiative aims to make students more competitive and marketable in the job industry upon graduation.

“We are empowering our students to become marketable and competitive so that when they complete their studies, they are better positioned to secure employment compared to those without such certifications,” said Nyirenda.

He further noted that the courses offered on the platform also provide entrepreneurial knowledge and skills that can help students become self-reliant after college.

One of the students, Andrew Nambwale, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information systems, applauded the initiative, saying it will provide students with the support they need for their careers.

“This project will help us students get the support we need in our careers after we graduate,” said Nambwale.
