PIC: MUBAS staff participate in building exercises
The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) Vice- Chancellor Associate Professor Nancy Chitera says leadership trainings play a critical role in strengthening the university’s management and governance systems.

She said this on 27 June, 2025 during the closing of a one-week Leadership and Governance Workshop for MUBAS managers at TFM Centre of Excellence in Blantyre.

Chitera said the workshop, which attracted managers from all academic and non-academic departments of the university, aimed at providing a platform for sharing a common vision for the institution.

“Trainings like this help us to reflect on where we are coming from and where we are at the moment. The MUBAS we want requires a lot of mindset change, a lot of behaviour change, because we want to be a leading university in this country and beyond,’’ she said.

Chitera said apart from acquiring knowledge, the training provided a platform for interaction with industry experts and professionals.

“From the insights we have gotten from different presenters here, we will never be the same. We have learned how we can run the institution as business while remaining rooted to our mandate as a public university,’’ she added.

Concurring with the Vice-Chancellor, one of the participants, Leonard Gondwe said the workshop was insightful, more especially on resource mobilization and team building.

“Leaders are very crucial to success of any institution and it was very important that we all came here as managers to learn and deliberate on how we can take our organization to greater heights, because if we are to grow, we need to work as a collective. The goals of the institution should take precedence over individual goals,’’ said Gondwe.

Among others, participants acquired knowledge on resource mobilization, marketing, team building and governance.

The workshop run from 22-27 June, 2025.
