PIC: Digital skills training for Administrative Assistants in session
The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) is implementing a two-year Inclusive Digital Transformation for Malawi (IDT4M) Project aiming at promoting inclusive digital transformation and bridging the digital divide in Malawi.

As part of the project implementation, 35 Administrative Assistants from different sections of the institution were trained in digital skills from 11-13 December 2024. The objective of the training was to equip the participants with modern skills in managing online calendars, digital document management, email management, social media and computer management, and safety and security among others.

According to the Head of CSIS at MUBAS, Dr. Patrick Chikumba, under the project, the department will also boost youth involvement in digital literacy and productivity, support digital innovations, and promote gender equality in the digital space.

“Under this project, we have lined up several activities such as online digital training for our staff and students, digital inclusion advocacy, and Artificial Intelligence awareness, and we will also promote digital transformation among teachers and learners in secondary schools,’’ said Chikumba.

Veronica Kachale, one of the administrative assistants at MUBAS who attended the digital skills training said the session was very insightful.

“This training has equipped me with advanced digital skills. Overall, I have gained new skills and knowledge that will help me improve my work ethic and output, and I feel more confident ready to apply what I've learned.  The combination of expert knowledge, engaging delivery and practical application made this training worthwhile,’’ said Kachale.

The IDT4M project is being implemented with support from the Malawi Government and the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP).  Other universities taking part in the project are the University of Malawi, Malawi University of Science and Technology and Mzuzu University.
