MUBAS Strengthens Public Sector Governance
The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) is committed to strengthening public sector performance and governance systems in Malawi by continuously providing expert advice and leadership to various levels of government. The University actively supports evidence-based policymaking through the expertise of its academic and research professionals, particularly in the areas of public finance management, economic policy, and institutional governance.

This commitment reflects MUBAS’s broader mission to contribute to national development by translating academic knowledge into practical solutions that enhance government efficiency and accountability.

In 2024, this commitment was exemplified by the secondment of Associate Professor Betchani Tchereni, Executive Dean of the School of Business and Economic Sciences, to serve as the Secretary to the Treasury, the highest office responsible for managing the nation’s public finances.

Professor Tchereni, a distinguished economist and experienced administrator, has made significant contributions to fiscal policy formulation and implementation at the national level. His appointment demonstrates MUBAS’s active role in providing specialized expertise to the Government of Malawi, reinforcing the University’s position as a key partner in advancing sound economic governance and sustainable public sector reform.
