At the MUBAS Library, external members who wish to access academic materials can do so upon application to the Librarian. Admission is granted at the Librarian’s discretion, based on submission of valid identification documents and a letter from a guarantor. Once approved, external members can enjoy reading and reference privileges within the library.
Additionally, members of the general public may also be allowed access to the Library for reference purposes at the Librarian’s discretion. This open policy fosters a culture of shared learning and promotes lifelong education beyond the university’s formal boundaries.
Another key facility supporting community engagement is the MUBAS UniPod, an innovation and entrepreneurship hub that provides access to a variety of specialized spaces for both MUBAS and non-MUBAS users. The UniPod includes a collaborative ideation area, a Design Lab, and a Makerspace housing five specialized laboratories: electronics fabrication, mechanical fabrication, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) fabrication, a wood workshop, and a digital creative arts lab.
In addition, the UniPod hosts a business nursery and a technology transfer office, creating a dynamic environment for innovators, entrepreneurs, and researchers from all walks of life to collaborate and bring ideas to life.
MUBAS also extends access to its Research Ethics Online Training, which is open to both internal and external researchers. This initiative ensures that all researchers, regardless of institutional affiliation, can gain a solid understanding of ethical standards in research conduct. By making this training accessible online, MUBAS supports the integrity, quality, and inclusiveness of research activities across Malawi and beyond.
Through these initiatives, MUBAS continues to demonstrate its commitment to equitable access to knowledge, innovation, and research resources. The University’s approach exemplifies its mission to empower individuals and communities through education, research, and technology that serve the broader society.
