On 25 July 2025, the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) through the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) launched Nzeru Hub, a platform that seeks to enhance digital skills among students and the public.

Apart from offering basic digital literacy to users, the platform will provide easy access to learning materials and other information.

Chief Executive Officer for Malawi Research and Education Network (MAREN), Solomon Dindi who was guest of honour during the launch, said as country that faces teaching and learning resources constraints, Nzeru Hub is an excellent platform for the nation.

“This platform allows students to have a wider knowledge beyond their specific field of study. It will help them to access leaning materials that may not be readily available in their school libraries or in their syllabi,’’ he said.

Dindi said digital technology is a key enabler to the achievement of the Malawi 2063 vision.

“Technology helps us to find information on agriculture, mining, finance, health and other areas,’’ added Dindi.

Commenting about the platform, team leader for Inclusive Digital Transformation for Malawi (IDT4M) at MUBAS, Dr. Martin Msendema said the platform will not only benefit the university community but the public at large.

“Nzeru Hub will help us to provide informal digital skills to the communities. We will train some students as digital advocates who in turn will provide digital skills knowledge to their community members,’’ said Msendema

Msendema said the project will deliberately seek to enhance digital skills among women and girls

“Digital skills are very important among women and girls who are very key in management of our homes. Digital skills will help them to access services that will help them improve their lives,’’ he further said.

Chioma Dimgba, one of the students at MUBAS said the platform will ease learning and improve access to digital information.

The launch was funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) which is also funding the IDT4M project.
