The training focused on equipping both new and existing ODeL facilitators with the knowledge and practical skills required to effectively teach, assess, and support students in an online learning environment.

On the first day, participants explored strategies for enhancing teaching and learning in ODeL. Facilitators emphasized the importance of authentic assessment, noting that teaching should extend beyond memorization and encourage students to apply knowledge to real-life situations. Sessions covered various types of authentic assessment, as well as emerging issues surrounding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Participants learned how AI can be used responsibly to support teaching and learning while maintaining academic integrity. They were also encouraged to reflect on their teaching practices, identify successful approaches, and recognize areas for improvement.

The second day focused on the practical use of the Learning Management System, Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment). Facilitators received hands-on training in creating and managing online assessments, uploading learning materials, and using Moodle tools to enhance teaching, student engagement, and course management.

Speaking during the workshop, the Head of ODeL at MUBAS, Dr. Annie Chizengo, said the training was organized to equip new ODeL facilitators with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively support the growing number of students enrolled in the University's ODeL programmes. She noted that the continued increase in enrolment makes it essential for facilitators to provide a high-quality teaching and learning experience, adding that such training should be conducted every semester to ensure continuous improvement in online education delivery.

The workshop concluded with participants expressing confidence in applying the knowledge and skills they had acquired to improve online teaching and learning, ultimately enhancing the educational experience of ODeL students at MUBAS.
