The fair brought together various players in the agricultural sector who showcased innovations, technologies and products aimed at promoting and advancing the agriculture industry in Malawi.

The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), through some of its subsidiaries and departments, was among the exhibitors participating in the fair.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Honourable Mbilizi called for increased innovation and value addition to agricultural products to enable Malawi compete favourably on the international market. She also emphasised the need for greater inclusion of women and young people in the agriculture sector.

Briefing the Minister at the MUBAS stand, leader of the MUBAS exhibition team, Dr. Rabson Mgawi, said the university is committed to contributing to the Malawi 2063 Agenda through the development of cutting-edge agricultural technologies.

Dr. Mgawi said MUBAS is currently developing and producing agricultural equipment tailored to Malawi’s weather conditions and soil types.

He added that, through the MUBAS Agriculture Mechanization Unit, the university will continue to engage and collaborate with the government and other partners in the agriculture sector to ensure that farm equipment is readily available to farmers while promoting import substitution.

In addition to agricultural equipment, MUBAS showcased food products produced at the Industrial Park, including peanut butter and confectioneries, as well as other innovations designed to support the agriculture sector.

The three-day fair provides an important platform for agricultural stakeholders to share knowledge, showcase innovations and explore opportunities for collaboration aimed at transforming Malawi’s agriculture sector.
