MUBAS Enhances Water Supply Infrastructure to Meet Growing Demand

PIC: PIC: Works in progress on campus

The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) has launched an ambitious project to rehabilitate and expand its water supply infrastructure. The initiative will address the increased water needs of a rapidly growing student and staff population.

With funding support from the Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP), MUBAS has engaged an experienced consultant tasked with redesigning the entire water system and overseeing the construction process. This redesigned system will include a robust 180,000-litre underground concrete storage tank, strategically supplemented by multiple smaller steel tanks dedicated to individual buildings on campus. These upgrades aim to create an efficient and reliable water distribution network, ensuring that water resources are readily available across all university facilities.

The underground tank will enhance water storage capabilities, offering a safeguard against potential disruptions to the water supply. Meanwhile, the addition of smaller steel tanks across buildings aims to distribute water more effectively, ensuring that specific facilities meet their unique water demands without overloading the main system.

The enhanced system is set to serve over 700 staff members and approximately 11,000 students, reinforcing MUBAS’s commitment to supporting its community’s needs. This project also aligns with the university’s broader initiatives to construct water-conscious buildings, minimizing wastage and promoting sustainable usage.
