Training Opportunity: ENTREPRENUERSHIP IN SMALL-SCALE MINING

Background

The Department of Mining Engineering of the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth and Sports are implementing an entrepreneurship training in small-scale mining. This project is funded by African Development Bank (ADB). The aim of the training is to enable the youth gain the necessary insights and skills in business establishment and management in small scale mining in order to contribute to sustainable youth owned businesses in Malawi. 

The Department of Mining Engineering of MUBAS is therefore inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to enroll into this program which is scheduled to commence in October, 2021. The Training will be delivered at the main campus of the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences in Blantyre and shall run for a period of 3 weeks.  At the end of the course candidates will be awarded a certificate.

Admission requirements

All applicants must have the requirements listed below:

  1. Should be a Malawian Male or Female, aged 18 to 35 years.
  2. Should have a new business start-up or a running business or defined business idea related to small scale mining that will benefit from the entrepreneurship training
  3. Must be able to read and write 
  4. The applicant should express his/her interest to be a trainee in Small-scale mining 
  5. Should have a traceable location including physical location

Scholarship 

The Malawi Government through Ministry of Youth and Sports will offer scholarships to ALL selected candidates. The scholarship will offer: tuition, stationery, accommodation and meals. However, the selected candidates will be responsible for their travel costs to and from MUBAS and should bring their own beddings. No training allowances will be paid to participants.

Interested applicants are requested to apply using application forms which can be downloaded below. Copies of the application forms can also be collected in person from the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences through the office of the Assistant Registrar (Academic) or Head of Mining Engineering Department. Or through WhatsApp by contacting the following number 0999086963.

Female applicants are encouraged to apply.

Applications are free of charge. 

Applications should reach the undersigned not later than Friday, 10th September 2021.
