Advert for Degree and Certificate ODeL Programmes Commencing September 2021

The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to enroll into Open and Distance e-Learning (ODeL) Degree and Certificate programmes which are scheduled to commence in September, 2021.

1. UNIVERSITY CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION

Programme Description

University Certificate in Education is designed for individuals who have practical knowledge and expertise in their fields and are teaching but have not had pedagogical training. The aim of the programme is to develop understanding, skills and competencies in teaching, learning and assessment. University Certificate in Education is an academic qualification designed to give individuals extensive preparation to teaching through placement to schools preceded by substantial grounding in education foundations. It is a one year programme offered on non-residential basis through blended approach combining face to face and distance learning.

In the first semester, candidates will cover modules related to educational foundations while the second semester will accord the candidate a chance to practice through teaching placements.

Admission requirements

Applicants to the programme should have:

• At least a diploma in a any field from a recognised institution and two years teaching experience.

Tuition fees per academic year for the whole duration is K650,000 for domicile, $1,500 for SADC students and $2,000 for international students from countries outside the SADC region payable in two installments.

Scholarship offer for UCE

The United States Agency for International Development is offering scholarships to some selected candidate through the Strengthening Higher Education Access in Malawi Activity (SHEAMA).

2. BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (BUSINESS STUDIES)

Program description

This programme is designed to address the needs for teachers to deliver Business and Computer related subjects, help in the management of the schools and colleges. The programme aims to provide training for Business studies teachers or trainers for Secondary Schools, Technical Colleges, and Technical and Vocational Rehabilitation Training centres. The graduates from this program will be teachers/instructors in secondary schools and technical colleges. These teachers will have both pedagogy and content.

Admission Requirements

Candidates may join the programme through:

Normal Entry

  1.  Minimum of a verifiable Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) certificate with a minimum of six credits including English, mathematics;
  2. Advanced Subsidiary (AS-Level) certificate with B-B-B-B grade combination including English, mathematics;
  3. National Senior Certificate (NSC) with 6-6-6-6 grade combination including English, Mathematics.

Mature Entry Degree Programme

  1. Mature entry applicants with Malawi School Certificate of Education or any equivalent O-level qualification with credits in English and mathematics; and
  2. Diploma in education or diploma in business/management or computer studies field from recognised institution and two years’ work experience will be admitted in second year; or Diploma in education and diploma in a business/management or computer studies field fromrecognised institution and two years’ work experience will be admitted in third year.

Tuition fees per academic year for a degree programme is MK400, 000 for domicile, USD1000 for SADC students and $1500 for international students from countries outside the SADC region payable in two installments.

The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences believes in gender equality and female candidates are encouraged to apply.

These programmes will be delivered through Distance Learning therefore the students are expected to have a personal computer and access to the Internet.
