Skills Development Project (SDP)

Started:
The University of Malawi – The Polytechnic, through World Bank–funded Skills Development Project support, aims to strengthen its performance by improving access and market relevance of engineering programmes. This will be achieved through expanding and rehabilitating infrastructure (labs, lecture theatres, classrooms, offices, library, and workshops), introducing new diploma and undergraduate programmes (particularly in mining, biomedical, and biochemical engineering), conducting tracer studies, and offering bridging courses. The project also focuses on enhancing programme relevance via curriculum review, procuring modern equipment (computers, projectors, vehicles, generator, lab tools), and building staff capacity through recruitment and advanced training (Masters and PhDs). Beneficiaries include students, staff, public and private organisations, and the wider community.
