Don’t engage in corruption- UNIMA VC advises fresh graduates
On 29 April, 2026, over 1700 students of whom 535 are from the Malawi University of Business Applied Sciences (MUBAS), and were enrolled during the federal University of Malawi (UNIMA) system, graduated with certificates, diplomas and degrees during a colourful ceremony at the UNIMA’s Great Hall in Zomba.

Speaking during the ceremony, UNIMA Vice- Chancellor Professor Samson Sajidu, advised the fresh graduates to serve the country with dignity and a sense of responsibility by desisting from theft and corruption which he said undermines public confidence and erodes trust. He added that the general public through their taxes, significantly contribute to educating students at the university and he appealed to the graduates to be responsible and ethical in their professional lives.


The UNIMA Vice- Chancellor also urged all graduates who had benefited from government loans through the Higher Education Students Loans and Grants Board to pay back their loans to ensure the continuity of the initiative. Professor Sajidu expressed gratitude to the government for its continued support to the university, more especially in infrastructure and staff development.


In his remarks, UNIMA Council Chairperson, Dr Ben Malunga assured the UNIMA management of government’s commitment towards improving accommodation challenges at the university and also the advancement of better conditions of service for staff.


Among other high dignitaries who graced the ceremony include the Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, Dr Ken Ndala, MUBAS Council Chairperson William Mpinganjira and Vice- Chancellors from the country’s’ public universities.

Of the 535 students from MUBAS, two graduated with PhDs.
