November 9, 2023 was all tseketseke at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) when ILLOVO Sugar Malawi made a donation of computer servers to the university.

The donation was made to promote the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and all other MUBAS programs.

Tawonga Munthali, ILLOVO’s Industry Affairs Manager, described the donation as ‘key’ to national development. He also emphasized that the donation of the servers will empower and enable students to do research easily.

Speaking after receiving the donation, Executive Dean for the School of Education. Communication and Media Studies at MUBAS, Dr. Kizito Kanyoma, described the donation as timely as the university intends to expand its student enrollment. The donation will, therefore,  ease pressure on the need for more and modern resources as part of capacity building in ICT.

Kanyoma observed that there are many students completing their secondary school education each year who are ready to join the university. However, limited capacity in ICT infrastructure becomes one of the barriers to admitting more students than the number of students being enrolled now.

“With the donation received and the other initiatives currently underway at the University, MUBAS  is in the process of increasing student enrollment to support one of MW2063 goals, which is to widen access to higher education for the country’s youths. Thus, the donation will certainly support the wish of the University,’’ Kanyoma said.

Kanyoma also requested ILLOVO to consider partnering with the university in awarding best performing students at the university, especially students doing STEM-related programs.

This ILLOVO’s donation to MUBAS was valued at over 20 million Kwacha.
