The learners were guided on studying techniques and other requirements needed for admission to the university. They were particularly advised to work hard in mathematics and science subjects which are major prerequisites for admission into most programmes at MUBAS.
Sharon Ellason, one of the leaners at Mfera CDSS hailed WASHTED for organizing the motivation and career talk, describing it as an eye opener. She said the engagement inspired her and her fellow students, especially since some of the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) students who spoke at the event were former learners from Mfera Community Day Secondary School and nearby areas.
‘’ As students from rural areas like this, sometimes we look down on ourselves, thinking it is impossible to go to the university, but hearing testimonies from former students of this school who are now studying at MUBAS has really motivated us to work hard in our studies so that one day we can also walk in the corridors of MUBAS and other universities across this country,’’ said Ellason.
In his remarks, Head Teacher for Mfera CDSS Edward Mitiwe expressed gratitude for WASHTED for its continued support to the school, citing the construction of the girls hostel as one on the centre’s enduring legacies to the school.
Apart from the motivation, WASHTED also rewarded best two performing students from each stream with a K20,000 cash prize.
